We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope. But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope. -- Barack Hussein Obama, 44th President of the United States of America

Doctor Who (Fri., FOX) TV-14 The absent-minded time lord’s latest exploit in time and space finds the Doctor doing the story of Jonah in space when his time-ship is swallowed by a “Space Whale” that supports a colony of friendly aliens in its gut. The first half of this two-parter is all about marveling at the weird, showing off Hugh Laurie’s trademark giddy wonder at the often really gross mechanics of life in the whale. But hints of conflict arise with the third-act introduction of Kate Mulgrew as a straight-laced space captain who wants the animal as a trophy. My score: 8
