2016 is shaping up to be a bitch of a year.
It’s been republished so many times with different attributions that I’m not sure who originated the idea, but since this is the first google hit that comes up, I’ll link to this one. The idea of Gene Wilder as an American counterpart of the fourth Doctor is almost too obvious. But then, “When in doubt, do the obvious thing rather than the clever one” has been part of my remit for this series. So here’s Gene Wilder as the third Doctor…
What if…
The Doctor never escaped the Land of Fiction?
The Master of the Land of Fiction is content. All his stories have their happy endings. The Mechons are always defeated, the Cyberons always vanquished, even the terrifying Quarks are bested every time. Every day, the wind is fair and when the heroic Dr. Who comes to call, everybody lives. The world is one of adventure and excitement and justice for all. The Doctor finally has everything he ever wanted, and plans to live happily ever after.
Until a simple accident restores the free will of a friend the Doctor thought he’d lost a long time ago. A friend who will remind him that even if we are all just stories in the end, we should make it a good one…
Starring Gene Wilder (The Doctor/The Master of the Land/Dr. Who), Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon) and Christopher Robbie (Karkus)
