The Day of the Doctor gave us our first diagetic glimpse of the next actor to portray The Doctor. The casting of Peter Capaldi was widely praised among those who didn’t conclude that this time, it was a crime against humanity that they hadn’t hired a woman. A lot of people reckoned that after Matt Smith and David Tennant, it was high time to get back to the classic-series tradition of casting older, more patronly actors in the role of The Doctor.
I don’t entirely disagree, but personally, I think they coulda made it work if they’d decided to have the Doctor keep regenerating younger…
